4.2 How Minerals Form
Vocabulary
Solution:
A substance in which is dissolved by another substance
Vein:
A part of a mineral that is sharp and different from the rest of the mineral
Outline
Process That Forms Minerals
Minerals are formed inside deep of the Earth and can be formed in two different ways
One, through crystallization of melted material
Two, through crystallization of materials dissolved in water
Minerals From Magam
Minerals form as hot lava that cools inside the crust
Size of crystals depend on several factors
Slow cooling leads to bigger crystal formation
Minerals From Hot Water Solutions
First, water goes inside the crust dissolving the minerals
Second, the magma heating up the water
Third, water comes out and cools making crystals
Minerals formed by Evaporation
Minerals can also be formed by evaporation
This is formed by salt water evaporating leaving salt crystals
Where Are Minerals Found
Earth's crust is mainly made out of many crystals
1800, are California's richest gold deposits
